Refrigerators & Freezers

What actually breaks and what it actually costs.

Most refrigerator failures trace back to four components: the compressor, the start relay, the evaporator fan motor, or the thermistor. A unit that runs constantly but won't cool is almost always a sealed-system issue or a failed defrost heater. A unit that won't run at all is usually a start relay — a $20 part that takes 10 minutes to swap.

Common Symptoms
Not cooling / warm insideRunning constantlyFreezer works, fridge doesn'tIce maker stoppedFrost buildup on back wallCompressor clickingWater pooling under unitLoud humming or rattling
Our Diagnostic Process
01
Diagnostic Pull
Pull unit from wall, check condenser coils, test compressor amperage, read error codes if applicable.
02
Sealed System Test
Check refrigerant pressure with manifold gauges. Low charge = leak or compressor failure.
03
Component Isolation
Test thermistor resistance, evaporator fan continuity, defrost heater, and defrost thermostat.
04
Quote Before Repair
Written estimate provided. You approve before we order or install any part.
Typical Repair Range
$95 – $480
Most refrigerator repairs. Compressor replacement quoted separately.

Washers & Dryers

Drum bearings, heating elements, lid switches — indexed.

Top-loaders fail at the lid switch, the drive belt, or the motor coupling. Front-loaders fail at the door boot seal, the drum bearing, or the control board. Dryers are simpler: 80% of no-heat calls are a failed heating element or a blown thermal fuse. We carry both on the truck for the three most common brands.

Common Symptoms
Won't start cycleNot spinningNot drainingLeaking from doorNo heat (dryer)Grinding or banging noiseShaking excessivelyError code on display
Our Diagnostic Process
01
Symptom Triage
Determine whether failure is mechanical (belt, bearing, coupling) or electrical (board, switch, fuse).
02
Access Panel Off
Remove front or rear access, inspect drum rotation, check motor winding resistance.
03
Heating Circuit Test
For dryers: test element continuity, thermal fuse, cycling thermostat, and high-limit thermostat in sequence.
04
Same-Day Parts
Common elements and switches stocked on truck. Most laundry repairs completed in one visit.
Typical Repair Range
$85 – $340
Covers most washer and dryer repairs including parts for common failures.

Ovens, Ranges & Dishwashers

Igniters, control boards, heating elements, pump motors.

Gas ranges most commonly fail at the igniter — the ceramic element that glows orange to light the burner. Electric ovens fail at the bake element or the control board. Dishwashers fail at the wash pump motor, the door latch assembly, or the heating element. In every case we test the component directly with a multimeter before ordering anything.

Common Symptoms
Burner won't igniteOven not reaching tempOven overheatingControl panel unresponsiveDishwasher not drainingDishes not getting cleanDishwasher leakingGrinding noise in dishwasher
Our Diagnostic Process
01
Gas vs. Electric
Confirm fuel type and model number. Retrieve tech sheet from inside door panel.
02
Igniter Resistance
Test igniter draw (1.1–1.8A for good igniter). Outside range = replacement needed.
03
Control Board Scan
Check for stored fault codes. Test relay outputs on board before condemning the board itself.
04
Dishwasher Pump Test
Run diagnostic cycle, test pump motor windings, inspect float switch and door latch assembly.
Typical Repair Range
$80 – $390
Range covers most single-component failures. Control board replacement quoted at diagnosis.

Repair vs. Replace

When to fix it.
When to let it go.

The 50% rule: if the repair costs more than half the price of a new unit, you're likely better off replacing. But the rule has exceptions — and knowing them saves you from a $1,200 purchase you didn't need.

Appliance
Repair Range
Replace Signal
Refrigerator
$150–$400
Compressor failure on unit > 12 years
Washer
$120–$340
Drum bearing failure on front-loader > 8 years
Dryer
$85–$280
Motor failure on unit > 10 years
Dishwasher
$110–$320
Control board failure on unit > 9 years
Oven / Range
$100–$390
Multiple component failures in 12 months

⚠ Note on Control Boards

Control board replacements are expensive ($200–$500 parts). Before approving, ask us whether the board is repairable or if a generic substitute exists — often it does, at 40% of OEM cost.
